A specific type of powder coating line is the Power & Free automatic coating line, which is designed for maximum flexibility and efficiency in automated powder coating applications.

Description

A Power & Free automatic powder coating line system consists of two separate chains: the power chain and the free chain.

The power chain provides the continuous motion for the system, while the free chain allows for the independent movement of individual carriers (or trolleys) that hold the workpieces.

 

How independent movement at different speeds is achieved:

Power Chain: This is the main drive chain that runs continuously and is powered by a motor. It moves all the workpieces through the system by driving the free chain. The speed of the power chain is fixed and is typically constant throughout the operation.

Free Chain: This is where the key innovation lies. The free chain carries the individual workpieces but is not directly powered. Instead, it moves by being "pulled" or "pushed" by the power chain, but each trolley (workpiece) can move independently. The workpieces are attached to the free chain via trolley carriers. These trolleys are equipped with pushing or pulling mechanisms that allow them to either move independently (for certain processes) or be grouped together to move in synchrony with others.

Variable Speed and Stops: The workpieces in a Power & Free system can be stopped, started, and moved at different speeds by activating or deactivating specific segments of the free chain. For example:

When a workpiece is in the coating zone, it may move at a slow speed to ensure proper powder application.

In the curing oven, the workpiece can stop for a longer time for optimal curing.

In other stages, workpieces can be moved quicker or same as the speed when they pass through the coating booth, depending on the requirement. This allows for high flexibility and ensures that the process does not disrupt the flow of the rest of the line.

This independent movement is crucial for flexibility.

 

The automatic powder coating booth:

The automatic powder coating spraying provides a controlled environment where powder is applied to the workpieces using electrostatic spray guns, and it captures the oversprayed powder, preventing it from contaminating the surrounding area. 

The coating booth is typically made of electrolytic galvanized steel with powder-coated finishes or PVC panels to ensure durability and resistance to wear.

The booth recovery system is designed to recycle oversprayed powder back into the system for reuse, reducing material costs. It can be a  stainless steel cyclone two-stage recovery system or a filtration single-stage recovery system.

The heating oven:

The heating oven plays a crucial role in curing the powder coating after it has been applied to the workpieces. The curing furnace is designed to heat the workpieces to a specific temperature, typically between 180°C to 220°C, depending on the type of powder used. The curing process causes the powder to melt, flow, and bond to the metal surface, forming a durable finish.

In the oven inner, the parts stop moving when curing, and move out after curing together with the trolley one by one orderly.
