Advantages of using PVC material automatic spray booth in powder coating line

Aug 22, 2025

1. Excellent chemical resistance, compatible with a wide range of powder coating types
During the electrostatic powder coating process, powder coatings (such as epoxy, polyester, and acrylic) may contain trace amounts of solvents or acidic/alkaline additives, and solvents (such as isopropyl alcohol and ethyl acetate) are often required to clean the spray booth interior after spraying.
PVC is extremely chemically stable and does not react with most powder coatings or cleaning solvents. It also resists swelling, cracking, and coating detachment caused by prolonged contact with powder (in contrast to metal spray booths, which are susceptible to solvent corrosion, and fiberglass spray booths, which are susceptible to strong solvent penetration). PVC maintains the integrity of the spray booth interior over time, preventing impurities from entering the coating and increasing defective product rates.

2. Smooth, powder-resistant surface reduces powder loss and cleaning costs.
The interior walls of the PVC spray booth undergo special treatment to achieve a high surface finish (low Ra value) and are inherently non-static (requiring grounding to further eliminate static electricity). Consequently:
Reduced powder residue: Excess powder (recovery powder) during spraying is less likely to adhere to the wall surface and most of it falls directly into the bottom recovery system, increasing powder utilization by 3%-5% (especially for high-priced functional powders such as fluorocarbon powder and antibacterial powder, where cost savings are even more significant).
Simplified cleaning: No need for frequent abrasion with high-pressure water guns or wire brushes; simply wipe with a soft cloth dipped in a neutral solvent. This reduces cleaning time by over 50% and prevents damage to the interior walls caused by cleaning.

3. Lightweight Design Reduces Installation and Retrofit Difficulty
PVC sheet density is approximately 1.38g/cm³, only one-fifth that of steel (7.85g/cm³) and two-thirds that of fiberglass (1.8-2.0g/cm³). Therefore:
Easy Installation: Individual PVC sheets (commonly sized 1.2m x 2.4m) are lightweight and can be manually moved and spliced without heavy lifting equipment. This makes them particularly suitable for retrofitting existing spray booths (no additional reinforcement of the plant's load-bearing structure is required).
Modular Assembly: PVC spray booths can be customized to meet production requirements (such as workpiece size and number of spray guns). Joints are sealed with a special PVC adhesive. Installation time is 30%-40% shorter than metal spray booths, and they allow for flexible expansion later (e.g., increasing booth length or adding a recycling port).

4. Excellent insulation improves spraying safety and coating uniformity.
Electrostatic powder spraying relies on the principle of "high-voltage electrostatic adsorption" (the spray gun is connected to a high-voltage negative electrode, and the workpiece is connected to a positive electrode). The insulation of the spray booth directly affects the stability of the electrostatic field:
Preventing static leakage: PVC is an excellent insulator (volume resistivity ≥ 10¹⁴Ω・cm), preventing the electrostatic field between the spray gun and the workpiece from "shorting." This ensures stable adsorption of the powder to the workpiece surface, reducing problems such as uneven coating thickness and missed areas caused by uneven static electricity.
Reducing safety risks: Insulation prevents operators from experiencing electrostatic shock from contact with the spray booth walls (this requires integrated grounding of the spray booth to eliminate static charge buildup). This is particularly suitable for workshops in northern China with lower humidity.

5. Significant cost advantages and high cost-effectiveness throughout the entire lifecycle.

6. Environmentally compliant, no heavy metal or volatile pollutant emissions.
PVC spray booths:
Production: Qualified PVC sheets do not contain heavy metals such as lead and cadmium (compliant with RoHS and REACH environmental standards), preventing heavy metal contamination of sprayed workpieces (especially suitable for spraying food-grade and medical-grade workpieces).
Usage: No volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released at room temperature, and discarded materials can be recycled and shredded for reuse (professional environmentally friendly disposal is required). Compared to fiberglass spray booths, which are difficult to degrade after disposal, and steel spray booths that rust and generate heavy metal pollution, this product is more compliant with environmental regulations.

7. Weather and aging resistance, adaptable to complex workshop environments
Spray painting workshops are often subject to high dust levels, large humidity fluctuations (40%-80%), and temperature swings (15-40°C). PVC spray booths:

Humidity resistance: They do not absorb water or retain moisture, preventing mold or structural deformation caused by high humidity (compared to wooden spray booths, which are susceptible to moisture, and steel spray booths, which are prone to rust).

Aging resistance: PVC sheets, with added antioxidants and UV absorbers, can withstand long-term use in workshops (out of direct sunlight) without brittleness or discoloration, maintaining structural stability.
